When traveling around the world, it's important to be as autonomous as possible. Let's work together to turn the XR 41 into an autonomous yacht ready for three weeks of open water sailing. At the same time, all autonomy should be easily dismantled before the race so that the yacht returns to its original condition.

For a comfortable long voyage, it is necessary to provide supplies of water, food, electricity and fuel.

The current equipment of the yacht from the shipyard:

• Water tank: 205 liters

• Refrigerator: 140 litres

• Lithium batteries: 24V, 400 Ah

• Fuel tank: 115 litres

• Engine: Yanmar 30 hp

The yacht was originally designed for racing, and these parameters are quite sufficient for racing mode. However, this is not enough for long transitions.

💧Water:

205 liters of water is very little. The solution: installation of a 24-volt desalination plant that produces up to 100 liters per hour. It is important to choose a model that is reliable and easy to repair. In addition, a 200-liter soft tank can be added, which will provide:

• 400 litres of water in tanks

• 50-100 litres of water per hour from the desalination plant

🍽️ Food:

The 140-liter refrigerator allows you to store rapidly perishable food. The main menu for long journeys should be designed in case the refrigerator fails:

• Porridges, cereals, pasta

• Eggs, milk

• Green fruits and vegetables

• Freeze-dried meals

• Chocolate, nuts, tea and coffee

These products do not require refrigeration. And 140 liters of the refrigerator can be filled with goodies: jamon, cheeses, yoghurt, frozen meat and other delicacies. Which will be a nice bonus all the way, just like freshly caught fish.

🔋Electricity:

24V, 400 Ah batteries provide:

• Continuous operation of the refrigerator, instruments, autopilot and navigation lights

• 220V via inverter

• Ability to cook on an electric stove 3 times a day

To charge the batteries, you will need to start the engine for 3 hours daily. Additional solutions:

• Install solar panels on the cabin

• Purchase a hydrogenerator that can be easily mounted and dismantled on the yacht's transom

⛽️Fuel:

The 115-liter fuel tank allows you to charge the batteries 17 times (3 hours each cycle). Adding two 25-liter canisters increases the capacity to 24 charges, which is equivalent to 24 days of autonomy on fuel, excluding solar energy and a hydrogenerator.

Testing and optimization:

All data must be tested before exiting. I'll share my results and weigh every kilogram of additional equipment, as well as every kilogram that can be dismantled before the race (for example, a hydrogenerator).

X-Yachts has provided the ability to compensate for the weight of the installed equipment using standard ballast. Part of the ballast can be removed, balancing the mass of additional equipment. This makes it possible to prepare the XR 41 for long journeys while maintaining its racing characteristics.
