When you work on a yacht as a captain, you get used to the yacht, but you don't feel your own at all. This has its pros and cons. When you're working as a captain on your yacht, the world turns completely upside down and things are different. Now you are not only responsible for the ship, but also all the expenses, and no one will ask you to wash the teak, polish the sides and repair what is loose.

In the ocean, we planned our daily turns, decided whether we would turn in a day or two, wait for the wind to change, or first rise to a certain latitude and then turn around. And when asked to turn around, you could say, “let's do it tomorrow.” During both transitions, I had 2 eye contacts.

After going out to the ocean with Azor, I set my master course for Gibraltar and it seemed to me that in 4-5 days I would be in my native sea. The first day was quiet, so I decided to check the weather forecast. To my surprise, a storm was coming from the north that turned away from Europe in our direction. Almost a headwave and wind with gusts of up to 45 knots.

Let's go back to a story that is already coming to an end. It was 5,500 nautical miles, and as you remember, it was the way to start a new life.

In the summer of 2000, my dad took me for a ride on Assol's Angelina Rose 🌹 sailing yacht. After the three-masted ships with fireplaces and guns I was already used to, Assol seemed to me just a soap dish.

When the ship came back, I was invited aboard and my dad gave me a tour. The first thing I did was get into his “coffin” (personal cabin) and tried to imagine what it would be like to sleep in it on a North Sea jock.

The most interesting thing is that the trip took only a year, but it left a lifelong experience and was the main event in my father's life.

Before leaving, my dad had to say that they were going to England for the whole winter and might go further to Europe in the spring, but this is not accurate. He bequeathed me to learn English and promised to write letters.

The turning point was 1996. I was 11 at the time, and my own dad was about to go to sea for good. He was 34 years old and was striving for new horizons and the opportunity to wander around the world without working at all. He didn't know the word “downshifting” at the time, but that's exactly what he decided to do. He was offered to take part in an expedition aboard a historic sailing ship.

Route planning takes up all my free time, which is not enough as it is. Sometimes I feel like I have to have 48 hours in a day to get everything done, and the idea of not getting everything done keeps me going.

When I see an interesting project, I'm always curious who created it and whose hands and minds it was implemented. As I discussed all my ideas with individual Sailing Time graduates, with each new dialogue, I realized more and more that our graduates cover almost all areas.

When planning a racing trip around the world, you're faced with the challenge of transporting a full wardrobe of sails. Of course, it is possible to cross the ocean and sail every day on the same sails that you plan to race on, but they will wear out very quickly and become completely unsuitable for racing.

North Sails has been involved in this project since its inception. Usually, a boat is built first, and then we take measurements from what happened and sew sails for these parameters. However, this is not the case with racing yachts.

Traditionally, almost all X-Yachts are named using the letter X in the yacht name. And I've been thinking about it all these years, dreaming about my X.

When traveling around the world, it's important to be as autonomous as possible. Let's work together to turn the XR 41 into an autonomous yacht ready for three weeks of open water sailing. At the same time, all autonomy should be easily dismantled before the race so that the yacht returns to its original condition.

Considering the plans and 4 types of events, I would like the yacht to be suitable for each of them, but, as you can imagine, this is simply impossible.
