Thoughts about racing

The next stage of the winter series in Marmaris took place yesterday, and while on the water on the Farr 40, I already mentally spent it on the XR 41. At races, everyone talks about how to optimize your race score and what the competition is doing better. When I first saw this picture, I knew right away what the secret of the XR 41 was and why everyone who raced on it would love it and why the competitors wouldn't love it. The length of the waterline is a critical parameter that affects the race score, and X-Yachts decided to cheat. The shape of the hull is designed in such a way that when measured on smooth water in the marina, the nose does not sink into water, and the waterline is much shorter than it actually is. After all, when we start moving forward, the yacht will tilt and the loads from the sail will press its nose into the water, then it will become a full working length of 41 feet. But when measured, it will seem different. “Slow on the paper, fast on the water” is X-Yachts's slogan when designing the XR 41.
